FRP Pultruded Profiles: A New Industrial Alternative to Steel
Published by Hebei Fortis Technology Co., Ltd.
FRP Pultrusion is a continuous manufacturing process. Glass fiber reinforcements are pulled through a liquid resin bath that thoroughly impregnates every fiber, then drawn through a heated steel die that gives the profile its final cross-section and triggers the resin cure.
The key word is continuous. Pultrusion runs 24/7 and delivers consistent fiber volume fractions (typically 50–70% by weight), uniform wall thickness, and tight dimensional tolerances along the entire length of a profile. A glass-fiber-rich surface veil creates a smooth, resin-rich outer skin, providing additional UV resistance, chemical resistance, and a finished appearance — no painting required.
The following table shows the mechanical properties of our FRP pultruded profiles line. Pultrusion locks in a high, uniform fiber fraction.

FRP profiles are inherently corrosion-proof. Glass fibers contain no iron, so there is no electrochemical corrosion mechanism, and the resin matrix provides an additional chemical barrier. In corrosive service environments, pultruded FRP regularly achieves 50-year service lives with near-zero maintenance — no painting, no galvanizing, no periodic re-coating cycles.

1. Corrosion Resistance
FRP rebar is inherently corrosion-proof. It is resistant to water, salt, acids, alkalis, and most industrial chemicals. In corrosive service environments, pultruded FRP regularly achieves 50-year service lives with near-zero maintenance — no painting, no galvanizing, no annual re-coating cycles.
2. Low Transportation and Maintenance Costs
FRP profiles weigh approximately 75% less than steel sections of the same dimensions. On site, this translates to fewer workers, less lifting equipment, lower freight costs, and reduced structural dead load. A 20-year total ownership cost analysis shows FRP at approximately USD 33/linear ft vs. USD 130/linear ft for equivalent steel, once maintenance is included.
3. Electrical Insulation
Pultruded FRP is non-conductive. In electrical substations, transformer yards, cable trays, and switchgear rooms, this is a safety requirement. FRP ladders, walkways, and cable supports are used universally in high-voltage environments because they cannot carry fault current.
4. Thermal Compatibility with Concrete
The linear thermal expansion coefficient of our pultruded FRP (2.0–2.5 × 10⁻⁵/°C) is significantly closer to Portland cement concrete than steel. In composite structures, this compatibility reduces thermal stress at the interface and improves long-term bond integrity.
5. Safer Construction
FRP profiles can be cut with standard abrasive saws — no sparks, no special tooling. They can be tied with non-metallic straps, with no welding required. Their light weight means one person can carry what would normally take two. In oil refineries, gas plants, and explosion-sensitive environments, the spark-free property is a critical safety advantage.
Pultruded FRP profiles are widely used across the following sectors:
