Fiberglass Water Treatment Solutions
By replacing bulky, corrosion-prone metal equipment with our FRP pretreatment tanks and in-house manufactured high-pressure membrane housings, the customer achieved a lighter, safer, and corrosion-free system.
Project Background
A large-scale manufacturing plant identified an urgent need to upgrade its aging water treatment system. However, due to severe space constraints within the equipment room, the available installation area was extremely limited. The plant required a solution that could be installed without heavy lifting machinery, while also ensuring rapid deployment with minimal disruption to ongoing production.
At the same time, the existing metal-based infrastructure showed clear signs of deterioration, giving rise to multiple operational risks:
Aging Pretreatment System: The internal rubber lining of the carbon steel sand filter tanks had begun to fail. As a result, rust particles were detaching and entering the water stream, posing a continuous fouling risk to downstream precision filtration units.
Safety Concerns: Due to long-term exposure to humid and oxidative environments, early-stage structural corrosion and pitting were observed at the weld seams of the stainless steel membrane housings. This form of structural fatigue presents a potential safety hazard, particularly under high-pressure operating conditions.
Scheme Design
Design Concept
The proposed solution involved the deployment of a fully integrated FRP system, centered around two distinct high-performance components: filament-wound FRP tanks and precision membrane housings.
Design Highlights
Non-Metallic Construction: Inert, corrosion-resistant materials were selected to completely eliminate the risk of corrosion associated with traditional metal systems.
Flexible Installation: A modular assembly approach was adopted, enabling installation within confined spaces and overcoming site layout limitations.
High-Pressure Reliability: The system was engineered to ensure safe and stable operation under working pressures exceeding 300 PSI (approximately 20.7 bar).
Solutions
Phase 1: Rapid Deployment on Site
Lightweight Transportation: The FRP tanks were compact and lightweight enough to be manually moved by two technicians through standard doorways, eliminating the need for wall demolition or heavy lifting equipment.
Instant Positioning & Stability: A tripod-style base design allowed the tanks to be positioned and stabilized immediately, enabling direct filling with high-density quartz sand and effectively eliminating the instability commonly seen in traditional tank designs.
Step 2: Modular Assembly & Installation
Manual Handling Installation: The FRP membrane housings were light enough to be lifted and installed onto stainless steel support frames by hand, avoiding the use of cranes or hoists in confined installation areas.
Plug-and-Play Piping Connections: Standardized side ports and end connections enabled fast, plug-and-play pipe integration, significantly reducing installation time and simplifying on-site assembly.

Value of the Solution
Performance Improvements
Improved Water Quality: The transition to inert, non-metallic flow paths completely eliminated metal ion leaching, resulting in a significant improvement in produced water purity.
Enhanced Operational Safety: The composite material construction removed the risks associated with metal corrosion, ensuring safer and more reliable long-term operation.
Higher Maintenance Efficiency: The tripod base design simplified drainage procedures, while the smooth, non-metallic membrane housing surfaces made routine cleaning faster and less labor-intensive.
Visualized System Management: The distinctive and professional equipment appearance supported the plant’s 5S management practices, enabling clear visual separation between the pretreatment area and the RO process zone.
This project demonstrates the superior performance of FRP composite materials in modern water treatment applications. By replacing aging metal equipment with advanced FRP components, the customer achieved higher water quality, improved safety, and a future-proof water treatment system built for long-term performance.
